In Tiger’s case his fast downswing tempo triggers his subconscious mind to try to save the shot because he knows the clubface is not square (it’s too open) and his subconscious is pretty smart so he stands up and tries to save it. When he does this he has no chance unless he flips his hands to square the face. You can tell Tiger is out of sync when he has a slight stand up and a roundhouse finish.
Chicken or the Egg?
In Tiger’s Case, I believe the quick Tempo on the downswing causes the mechanical errors. Similarly, when he has a 7 frame downswing, his mechanics are beautiful.
So, when you’re working on mechanics in your swing, make sure your tempo is there first.
